Our mission is to provide pre-schools with a sessional Montessori inspired programme that is delivered in English using a play-based approach. This supports children with the learning of English as a second language. Our specialised coordinators create and produce a curriculum that suits every learner.
We support the methodology of Maria Montessori.
Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, educator and innovator who in the early 1900's became acclaimed for her exemplary philosophy in which aimed at providing a method that enabled all children to be reached. She recognised that the children's hands were their tools, and highlighted the importance of them working through play. She recognised that each child is an individual and proclaimed that when provided an appropriate opportunity, no child should/would fail. Maria Montessori fostered the idea that when the teachers work through observation and 'follow the child' with both their interests and abilities all children can be reached.
At MEME we support and promote learning through play. We want to provide children with the opportunity to flourish in their experiences so that it sparks an interest and love of learning.
My name is Charlotte Sofokleous. I am a British national, a mother and a Montessori teacher.
After trying to learn Greek when moving to Cyprus I had a wealth of experiences with private Greek lessons and within the university sector. I suddenly became aware of the unfortunate process that many adults and children were facing. Learning a second language was proving to be a disappointment and I found this to be a commonality for many others who I came to meet. This consequently was setting those I speak of up for failure. Why? With book led and lecture techniques it only promoted boredom, difficulties in completing tasks and a general lack of interest in learning the language.
I suddenly found myself being approached by parents within the nursery I was working at the time asking if I would provide private English lessons. From hearing many shocking stories, I decided that I had to try to devise a programme combing the wonderful aspects, materials and ethos of the Montessori method and make them available to all children. And here we have it... My English Montessori Experience. MEME is providing both parents and preschools a Montessori inspired programme that is delivered in English. This programme has been created with an emphasis of working through play where specialised coordinators will provide the children with a wealth of experiences. The children will not only have the opportunity to acquire and develop English language and literacy skills, they may also build upon all fundamental skills such as within their social emotional, physical and intellectual development.
(As from February 2019 The Jolly phonics programme will be incorporated)
MEME is one of the first extra curricular programmes that supply preschools with a five-hour day programme. This means that the specialised coordinator will join your setting for the day.
MEME is providing a Montessori inspired programme, delivered in English, using a play-based approach.
MEME incorporates large, small and 1-1 groups daily (something to suit every individual child).
MEME aims to provide an English coordinator who compliments daily routines and schedules, those of the preschools, the parents and of the child's. By providing the MEME experience 'in house' (at preschool) it minimizes disruptions making the experience fun and a natural process.
Based on readiness, the MEME plus programme is one of the fantastic opportunities that we provide and it is included in the price of all preschool packages. The plus programme provides additional 1-1 lessons for individual children.
MEME ALSO PROVIDES MORNING AND AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS

What makes this MEME PLUS and BOOSTER WORKSHOPS even more special?
Children will follow their very own mini curriculum. The programme acts as a guideline and will be adapted to suit each individual child. This means with their level, interest and pace.
MEME plus and BOOSTER workshops place emphasis on individual progress, again all through a play-based approach inspired by Montessori methodology.
DID YOU KNOW?
Children have the ability to read before they can write? Did you know the Montessori materials enable the child to do just that? For many children their hands may not be ready but their minds are. With the use of the large moveable alphabet, the child has the opportunity to for example, decode words and word build.
LEARNING THROUGH PLAY
"Play is the work of the child" Maria Montessori
MEME promotes a play-based approach. Children have the opportunity to get active and creative in their learning experiences.
AFTER-SCHOOL MONTESSORI INSPIRED PROGRAMME
Our workshops run for two hours and are provided on a termly basis. These are delivered to small groups and children also have the opportunity to follow their very own individual curriculum and work on a 1-1 basis with the coordinator. This is especially great for your child if they are already on the programme at pre-school as they can continue to practice and grow on their current journey.
Our workshops aim to provide children the opportunity to engage within a wealth of opportunities where they can naturally absorb imperative English language, literacy and communication skills.
We create an environment that is showered in rich vocabulary so that the children feel comfortable to practice their skills, which can lead to refinement and mastery.
Creative and active participation are essential aspects that we promote, and we aim to inspire and entice the children so that they become fully engaged. We endeavour to provide a natural approach to learning where the children’s interests are sparked, enabling subconscious absorption.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances can lead to missing a workshop. The idea is that this will enable your child to 'catch up and keep up'.
